Sing Along Shabbat

A Monthly Event For You and Your Family

Once a month, we host Sing-Along Shabbat. On the second Friday of every month*, every JEC family is invited to spend Shabbat with us and sing the songs your children learn everyday during Mifgash, our daily morning assembly.

During Mifgash, the students join together and sing songs with the rabbi and practice the rotating list of Hebrew vocabulary words that fit our monthly theme, along with words like "hello" and "goodbye."

The students have an opportunity to practice language and motor skills through music and movement.

What is Shabbat?

Shabbat, or Shabbos, is the Jewish Sabbath. On Friday evenings, we celebrate the end of the week, and the coming of our day of rest on Saturday. For more information on Shabbat and other Jewish Holidays, head over to our page on Judaism 101.

Dinosaur Shabbat
There’s a Dinosaur knocking at my door,
Knocking, 1, 2, 3.
There’s a Dinosaur knocking at my door,
And he wants to spend shabbat with me.

First we light the shabbos candles,
Then we drink the shabbos wine,
Then we eat the shabbos challah,
And it always tastes so fine.

There’s a Dinosaur knocking at my door,
Knocking, 1, 2, 3.
There’s a Dinosaur knocking at my door,
And he wants to spend shabbat with me.

I offer thanks to You,
Ever living Sovereign,
That you have restored my soul to me in mercy:
How great is your trust.

Hear O Israel, Adonai is God,
Adonai is one

How good and how pleasant it is
That brothers and sisters dwell together

Goodbye friends, goodbye friends, goodbye, goodbye. See you soon, see you soon. Goodbye, goodbye

Blessed are you, Adonai our God
Sovereign of the universe
Who hallows us with mitzvot
Commanding us to kindle the light of Shabbat

Blessed are you, Adonai our God
Sovereign of the universe
Creator of the fruit of the vine

Blessed are you, Adonai our God
Sovereign of the universe
Who brings forth bread from the earth

May God bless you and keep you
May God's light shine upon you
And may God be gracious to you
May you feel God's presence with you always,
And may you find peace
